Amazing Progress Putting Out the Fire

It is just after midnight, the beginning of August 3rd, and the air quality in Redding has improved by 80 points.  The toxins are vanishing almost as rapidly as the speed of the onset of the fire.  Voila!  I was so taken aback by the change in the atmosphere that I went straight to the live map of the Carr fire.  You can see for yourself that the many red dots that for eleven straight days cluttered the east side of the fire line are . . . gone.

Standing O for the firefighters!  And all praise be to God!

Where then is the smoke?  CNN reported that the smoke from the California wildfires  stretched from the West coast all the way into Oklahoma.

Don’t get me wrong.  This battle is not over.  The Carr fire is only 37% contained.  Currently it is blazing through the hills, nearing Trinity Dam Blvd and burning along the 299 further west of Redding and heading toward State Hwy 3.

The firefighters simply are not finished.

Meanwhile, Ed Bledsoe is still without his wife and two great grandchildren, and Jeremy Stoke’s wife, Alyson, is a widow, and Don Smith’s family is bereaved, and over 1000 people in or close to Redding have lost their belongings and their home.

The stark, harsh reality of what this fire has stolen will be felt for many years.

But the Lord is near, and His lovingkindnesses never cease, and His compassions never fail.  They are new every morning.  Great is Thy faithfulness.  “The Lord is My Portion,” says my soul.  “Therefore I have hope in Him.”  (See Lamentations 3:19-26.)
